Dropped by Lynde Shores CC in Ajax/Whitby today and saw a gathering of about 6 bird photographers on the ice in the lagoon near the parking lot. Among the mallards and Canada geese was a mandarin duck. Speculation among the crowd was that it was an escapee or was dumped there.

I didn't have my camera but I got a shot of the scene on my phone!!

Mandarins are quite common on most game farms, there was a large farm near Dunville, Ont by the side of the road where you could see 20-40 of these swimming in the pond, quite a sight to see. The female looks very similar to our female wood duck.
