Wow, nice close ups.
-
wow....nice, I have only ever seen these flying over. Crisp and clear shots!

Nice sighting and pics! Who doesn't love a Pileated or two?
-
I am surprised they are clear myself, I was so excited I was shaking. I crawled through the snow on my belly to get close enough for the single shots with my big lens and then my wife walked almost right up to them to get the picture of the pair. Unfortunately she didn't check the settings on her camera and the shutter speed was too low. I am glad she got at least 1 good one.

They are quite a striking species, aren't they?

I still can't get over how large these birds are. The last time I saw one it was about 50 meters away and it was hard to tell its size. This time I was probably within 10 meters and I would estimate them to be 14 - 16 inches tall.

Nice job and by both you and your wife.
They are amazing aren't they?
