Title: 401 Snowy Owls Mississauga
Post by: Rob'in'To on March 28, 2014, 10:48:59 AM
On my way home from work last night I observed 2 Snowy Owls along a stretch of the 401 in Mississauga.  One near Hurontario and a second bird at Dixie Road.  This stretch has been great for night time Snowy sightings; but no idea where they hunker down during the day (I have looked).  I don't advise pulling over on the 401 to look, night or day.  I made the effort to find spots along side of the highway (side roads, parking areas) where I can have peek and last night I had my camera in the truck with me, taking pics on for record.  Cheers!

I don't think the 2nd pic is a Snowy.
I think it's Cam Woolley out on assignment!

Cool shots Rob!
I can't imagine how many people drive by them and don't even see them.

Three guys take the same route home as me, and every day after seeing 1 or 3 Snowys along this stretch, I ask them if they saw them.  None ever do and I wonder how can they not.  But I guess its whatever one is tuned into.  Sure there aren't many people thinking about birds at 10:30 at night after an 8 hour shift.  For me, seeing them has been a highlight and I instantly forget work frustrations.  Never thought I'd be birding at night until this past winter.

I had great views of one at Renforth and Eglinton many nights as well.

I like the pics I've gotten.  Not bad for no tripod, freestyle, late in the evening, eh?

Oh, speaking of rescue birds.  A friend of ours just rescued a Quaker Parakeet.  It mocks peoples laughter and loves to say "F**K OFF".  Nice, eh?  Why do some people take in birds that really should not, let alone procreate?
