Title: Northern flicker in east york
Post by: mr.sharp-photo on April 17, 2014, 04:01:10 PM
yesterday afternoon, a northern flicker, of all things, landed in my tree and investigated for a bit.
that was a first. i live a block away from the Don Valley and i'll just add that to my one-off list of weird birds that never seem to stick around.

Cool. We live close to the Don Valley too and so we also get occasional interesting visitors. We've had northern flickers a couple of times over the past 10 years.

Nice bird to add to your Yard List Richard.  I had one visit the backyard back in 2007 and I've never had one since...at least not that I've seen.

A building where I used to work backed on to the Don Valley.  It was there that I saw my first ever Eastern Kingbird, Hairy Woodpecker, Pileated Woodpecker and Northern Mockingbird to name a few.  It was then that I got hooked!

Walter :)

we have pictures from 5 years ago (i think). for some reason, half a dozen eastern kingbirds decided to meet up and court....on the power line in front of our house. up and down they flew, in pairs.
so strange. never have i seen a kingbird on my street again.
