Title: help with ID...
Post by: Anonymous on May 15, 2006, 05:19:50 PM
Anyone know what type of bird this is? (it's probably easy. I'm not good with identifying anything but common birds lol)...I posted a pic on my blog:

If you know, please leave a comment on my blog. I'd appreciate it :)
thanks!

Escapee domestic ducks.

Sounds/looks like the "Odd Couple" up in Markham's Too Good Pond. They must be doing okay, they've been there for at least 6mths now.

Yeah. It was Too Good Pond! That makes sense that they're domestic ducks since they don't look like any around here :)
thanks!

Not that far.

Too Good Pond is up in Markham near Hwy 7 and Kennedy Road. It's just north of the "Old Unionville" tourist area. Nice area for a walk, and the woods to the north can yield a few good birds. There was a successful Wood Duck nest 2 years ago and there's a Caspian Tern or two fishing from the pond every summer.

From the "knobbed bill" this one is a Muscovy or Muscovy/...X... cross.  The variation in Muscobies is quite wide and when the crossbreed - with white "China" ducks, mallards or something else there are weird and wonderful results.

My tuppence worth!
