Title: Lake Aquitaine - dead ducklings and more
Post by: Bird Brain on May 20, 2014, 12:14:55 PM
Hi everyone.  I was at Lake Aquitaine this morning from 9:15 - 11:15am and sighted the following:

Cardinals x 2 (1m, 1f)
Chipping Sparrows
Grackles
House Sparrows

Mallards including 2 dead ducklings and 1 still alive swimming around in NW corner of lake - mom Mallard nowhere to be seen.  :(  Ducklings appear to be perhaps 2-3 days old.  People were trying to rescue the duckling and having no luck.

Mourning Doves x 2 - adult female sitting in tiny nest, adult male appeared, both leaning down into the nest doing something - not sure but perhaps feeding babies (thought I would be able to see them though).

Red-winged Blackbirds
Robins

Other:  could hear a Baltimore Oriole but not sighted.  Bumped into Bob (rcflier) and we were discussing recent bird sightings at Lake Aquitaine, Maplewood Park and Riverwood.

Lake Aquitaine:  SE corner of Glen Erin Dr. & Aquitaine Ave., behind the Meadowvale Community Centre.
