Title: Reporting a Banded Shorebird
Post by: Paul O'Toole on May 31, 2014, 06:16:02 PM
I checked out this site http://report.bandedbirds.org/ReportResighting.aspx and it only shows a resighting. How does one report a new first time sighting. Thanks for any info.

Isn't the first sighting when they banded it, and any subsequent sigthing is a resighting?

Duhhh, on my part. Too much sun today at the beach :) Heres a pic of it, not the best not sure if the first character is a O or Q, 4N is readable for sure. If you know the species post back and I will send off a report, you never know what may come back.

My first time experience of reporting a banded bird has been quite disheartening.

It stared with a Red-tail on which I reported 3 different sightings over an 18 day period of the same bird back in January.

Having acknowledged receipt of the reports I was asked not to submit any further reports on this bird until 'data from the bander has been received'.

Since then the response from the BBL in Laurel MD has been 'we are waiting data from the bander'. Meanwhile the bander informs me 'we have submitted all the data'.

While all this has left me with a sour taste I'm sure that should I sight another banded bird I will submit a report of the sighting.
