I popped down to Unwin on my way home today to see what the Ravens were up to. GONE.........not a sign or sound. I drove around behind, along to the marina by the Wet Woods, out past the Peregrine nest in the old building (the Peregrines were going in and out of the nest site) and back along to ABB. Walked around the park (Least Flycatcher, Spotted Sandpiper and a beautiful male House Finch going in to a nest) but no Raven to be found.
Drove home via the Lakeshore and didn't a Raven fly south in front of my car near Carlaw. 1 out of 6 so perhaps they are around somewhere - lots of places to scavange for dropped fries and other goodies down there. A terrific success story - congratulations to Ian S. and every one who was involved in monitoring the nest.

I stopped by with a friend today too, around 1 pm. We were able to find two of the Raven babies at the bottom of the stack - one was perched on a railing at the bottom of the ladder, and another perched on a very skinny edge that runs all the way around the stack. We watched for about 30 minutes before a parent showed up on the roof beside them, possibly bringing food.
Glad to hear that you saw both Peregrines around the nest site. We were only able to find one and it did not approach that part of the building. I was told by the good folk at the Peregrine Foundation last week that the pair has already had one failed clutch earlier this spring but they were very interested to hear that there may be a second attempt underway. Unfortunately all of the volunteers are currently very busy on fledge watch duty at the other nests around the city, so they are unable to monitor Hearn. As such they would be very interested in any sightings that may indicate nesting behaviour. You can submit any observations via the email link here: http://www.peregrine-foundation.ca/sightings.html I'm sure the foundation would be happy to receive updates any time you stop by.

I went back down today, much earlier in the afternoon having read Kris's post, and sure enough the ravens were on the roof of the building below the stack - 3 on the NE corner flapping and croaking and generally having a great time, one up on the second little landing above the roof wandering around, croaking down to its pals and hopping up and down on the railing, and 1 sitting quietly over on the SE edge of the roof beside a little wall...........perhaps Mom with one eye open watching her chicks while she had a little break?
So - 5 out of 6.........they haven't gone after all!! Seems that the trick is to go earlier than I did yesterday when there was no sign of them anywhere.

I believe there's a Raven that has been hanging around Broadview and Queen this past weekend, perched on the spire of Jilly's. Here's a very poor picture I managed to take when it was taking flight, heading West.

Can we safely assume it is the male at that location?
