Title: Yellow-crowned Night Heron?
Post by: Rotarran on August 17, 2014, 08:53:08 AM
Stephen Smith submitted a report to ebird of a Yellow-crowned Night Heron at CSSP.  He even took a picture, but I'm not entirely certain if it's a YCNH or a BCNH.  Looks like Yellow-crowned somewhat...the wings especially.  Thoughts?

The mostly dark and thick bill and the large eyes do look good for Yellow-crowned.

I'm no expert so it's a little hard for me to tell from the photo but it is a juvie Yellow-crowned. I was a Col Sam this afternoon and  I could see the difference between it and a juvie Black-crowned. Also, while I was there the bird was ID'ed by a very reputable birder.
