Title: Are these Sharp-shinned Hawks?
Post by: Khalli on September 15, 2014, 09:58:28 AM
During a walk I found three or four of these hawks playing around flying through the trees and chasing a couple of immature Blue Jays. At first I thought they were Merlins but now think they are Sharp-shinned Hawks. Some help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Based on size comparison to a Merlin and shorter tail than a Coopers Hawk, and perceived two tail bands, many times you can see three to four on a Coopers, I would say yes.
