Title: Dragonfly Help Please
Post by: paul_reeves on September 30, 2014, 07:04:38 PM
I got this dragonfly in Algonquin on September 27th. Searching my Dragonfly book I can narrow it down to a few species of Darner but other than that I haven't got a clue.

TIA.

With those thin thoracic stripes it can only be a Shadow Darner

Thanks Reuven.

And three years ago I thought birds were tough to identify.

Yes....this would be a Shadow Darner. I took similar shots recently up in Bracebridge, but yours is much clearer.  I always had him from behind, he never gave me another angle to shoot.
