Since it's so cold and windy outside today, I thought it was time for a little vicarious birding on the internet! Here is a remarkable video from Alaska of an American Dipper swimming under water. After the first minute the camera will switch to an underwater view...

This is another video from the same series, this one showing the bird taking an interest in the camera, even singing to it - possibly reacting to his own reflection in the lens...

Enjoy!

Years ago when I lived in Vancouver I watched a Dipper for quite a while swimming and/or walking underwater in a mountain stream. It was amazing!
Thanks for sharing.

That's an amazing bird. Would love to see it one day.

Cool videos.

I've never seen one, but some years ago I thought for a moment that I had one in my Toronto backyard! It was a Catbird with no tail feathers. A strange looking bird, and it had me going (briefly)!

I saw my first American Dipper this past September. We were in NE Arizona in the White Mountains. We searched all the likely spots. It took four days before we found one. I had a great view of it. It was one of the highlights of the trip.
