Title: Snowy Owls
Post by: Axeman on December 29, 2014, 03:13:38 PM: I read on the net that it's an "echo" year (geez I can't believe there's a name for this phenomenon)....a year following an "irruption" that mirrors the irruption...in other words, another year of many snow owls.

This will be my year to see one. Finally. Mark my words. Rob.

I saw my first ever back in Dec at Bayfront Park in Hamilton. Closer to you, one was reported in Owen Sound yesterday, this is from ebird - 1 Snowy Owl
Sitting on a rock by a clump of reeds at the edge by the water at Georgian Shores Marina (where the docks are).

Post by: Axeman on February 08, 2015, 07:25:22 PM: Thanks.....I've been trekking around looking for the Snowy reported in MF area....I'll see it on the day I don't have camera with me....my plumber was in the other day and asked me if it's possible to see bald eagles here...and I said that while it's not a common sight they are spotted from time to time....and he confessed he saw 3....he's not a birder....of course he saw them...just like the snowy is always spotted about town by non birders.....reminds me of the Karate Kid...."You Daniel San...beginner luck"

LOL, I know eh its like the weather channel they have a name for anything and eveything that nature throws at us. I wonder if they have a name for next winter when the come again after the "echo". We get snowy owls every winter on Wolfe & Amherst Island, have been for years.

Post by: Pat Hodgson on February 09, 2015, 01:08:39 PM: I saw one Jan. 31 in East Luther Grand Valley. Try driving the backroads in that area, including Amaranth and Melancthon. Scan every rockpile, hay bale, telephone pole, fencepost and isolated outbuilding - they spend most of their time perched in a prominent spot above ground level.
