Title: RFI Harrier sightings Caledon and area

Taking a friend out on Monday to look for Harriers.  He has not seen one in a long time.  Would appreciate any locations, reports up and including Monday morning of any sightings that birders will share.  Will check out Old School Road in south Caledon, also Erin, north Brampton, Orangeville, basically hours drive around southwest Caledon.  If you would rather not post here, please email location or suggestions to horsestuff 1 @ hotmail .com (please remove spaces).

Any help would be appreciated and making our friend happy at seeing one.

Unfortunately, did not see any Harriers.  We did see 3 Rough leg Hawks and 5 Red tails.  Next time!!!!!

They do migrate so it is more difficult seeing one in the winter.  But having said that, try generally flat areas with some rolling hills.  I saw one at TTP last year in the winter.  And I saw one at Downsview park 2 years ago also in the winter.

Any sightings to report??  I thought and that is a big thought I saw one coming up the 410 along the stretch between Mayfield and 10 the other day, but it was a quick glance.  I did see one in that area last year.  Will do the cruise around anyway, friends getting together and having fun!!!!!  A harrier would be a bonus.  Other birds/animals out there to see too!!!

It's not quite Caledon, but the area just south of the old highway 9 between the old highway 25 (Grand Valley) and Arthur has never let me down. I have never missed seeing a harrier from December until spring in this area. Very reliable. Usually see several. Drive the backroads east and west and north and south and you'll see harriers often very close to the road.

Cairnstone, thanks for that info.  We will certainly plan a trip up that way and yes, it is not that far.  Will report any sightings.

Spectacular male Northern Harrier hunting today along Dixie Road between Countryside Drive and Mayfield Road in Brampton. I will post photos in the photo forum.

Sorry to be delayed in replying,but thank you John and Cairnstone for those updates.  We did a quick trip about a week and a half along Old School Road and around a few open fields in that area of Caledon with no success.  Could have still been a bit early.  Will let my friend know of your sighting Cairnstone, as I am off next week to travelling for awhile.  Should get some new lifers on this trip.
