Hello Birders

Is Carden Plain worth visiting at this time of year ?  Any information on what might be seen  - much appreciated. Thank you.

The main road, Wylie Road is not plowed or maintain in the winter and maybe closed to traffic, although I have not been there since summer to confirm condition right now

check this bog site for Carden reports    http://www.boards2go.com/boards/board.cgi?user=Cardenbirdboard

Carden is mainly noted for its breeding birds, and the specialties are found mostly May-July. Other seasons Carden is generally less productive and probably not worth a visit unless you are in the area anyway.

The new name is Carden Alvar. The old name was Plain when people didn't know about the global rarity of alvars. The name Carden Alvar is now used by Ontario Field Ornithologists, Toronto Ornithological Club, Nature Conservancy of Canada, eBird, Carden Alvar Christmas Bird Count, and more. The core of the area is now protected as Carden Alvar Provincial Park.

Best birding is in late May and early June. Please see Ron Pittaway's Carden Alvar Birding  Guide
