This looks like a possible hybrid between Barrow's and Common Goldeneye. The purple sheen indicates Barrow's, the facial spot is a bit pointed, but not elongated enough for a pure Barrow's. The back pattern looks more like a Common. There was a hybrid reported on Ontbirds in Hamilton yesterday. Where was this?

I agree, it looks like a CommonXBarrow's hybrid.  It appears to have characteristics of both species.
