Title: Scoters at Col Sam Smith Park
Post by: Brian Bailey on February 28, 2015, 10:40:51 PM
A sure sign of heavy ice cover on the Great Lakes is an abundance of Scoters in Toronto.  This afternoon I found 12 White-winged and 3 Surf Scoters all close to shore.  There may have been more, but I wasn't carrying a scope.  There were a lot of ducks out at the edge of binocular range.  There's a lot of open water on the east side of the park.  There were lots of divers, but not many dabblers.  Also present was the adult male Harlequin.
