Title: mexico city birding

i am heading to mexico city at the end of feb. if anyone knows a guide or just good places to see birds, the info. would be greatly appreciated.

I visit San Miguel de Allende every year. The Mexican Audubon Society is based there and can be found at http://www.audubonmex.org/ (http://www.audubonmex.org/). They've been responsive to my questions in the past and may be able to help you out. If you get up to S.M. de Allende, let me know, and I'll send you my favourite spots.

Many regulars take the bus from the airport in Mexico City. The first class buses are very good. Once in San Miguel the taxis are very inexpensive. You can find more info at www.sanmiguelguide.com/tourism.htm (http://www.sanmiguelguide.com/tourism.htm).

it looks like i have the opportunity to go to San Miguel afterall. i sure hope you get this message. i go there saturday early in the AM. any info on where i should go, i'd really appreciate it. also, any random info (like what things to avoid apart from any tap water) would also be of much help. i managed to get about ten species (including a stunning vermillion flycatcher) in the trees in front of my hotel in mexico city. that just gives me umph to get more in San Miguel.

again, if you get this, thanks for your help so far.

I've been out of town so this may be too late. The easiest spot to get to is the city park which has nesting Great and Snowy Egrets, flycatchers, warblers, tanagers, etc. Also, the Charco del Ingenio can be reached by taxi for only three dollars or so. Ask the driver to pick you up again in a few hours. It's a ravine with a dam, a lake and some wetland. Waders, ducks, sparrows, wrens and more.
