Title: 3 Snowies - Col Sam Smith Park, Etobicoke
Post by: Walter Fisher on March 10, 2015, 09:08:54 PM
Today around noon I found 3 Snowy Owls on the ice at CSSP.  Two were in the middle of the marina and the other was on the west side in the bay.  The latter was being harassed by a crow while I was there.

A decent variety of waterfowl around the park including a male Ring-necked Duck out in the bay by Whimbrel Point.  I didn't find the previously reported Red-throated Loon or Harlequin Duck in the east bay.  Also checked Cliff Lumsden Park, Prince of Wales Park, and Sandy Road Parkette.

Walter :)

Wow, unusual to find so many in relatively close proximity to one another. There was only one in the marina on Friday when I was there last; I wonder if the other two are part of the predicted influx of returning birds? Too bad about the Red-Throated Loon. First the Spit, then Sam's, and now a new ebird report today at Bluffers! Guess you really just have to be in the right place at the right time!

p.s.  This fishing hut was in the middle of the marina at Sam's on Friday!

I think it must be part of the returning owls from down south as they're making their way back north.
