Title: Grebe Nesting Drive
Post by: Brian Bailey on April 07, 2015, 10:59:08 PM
Cycling through Col Sam Smith Park this evening, there were a pair of Red-necked Grebes hanging out in a small patch of open water east of the docks.  One was carrying a stick in its beak! Hopefully that's just courting behaviour, and they're not actually going to try building a nest on the ice.

I didn't hang around to watch.

Yes, I also saw the same thing last year at the same location around this time - it is great fun to watch. At the end there were a couple of actual nests with one for sure had several babies that many lined up to photograph.

Slightly off topic but are the snowy owl(s) still there? The weather for Sunday is looking great and I hope to get there during the afternoon.

I don't think so.  I saw one multiple times there the last weekend of March.  No eBird reports in the past week.  Sounds like there are a lot of Snowies on the move.
