Hi everyone. I was at Maplewood Park this morning from 9:15-11:15am and sighted the following:
Blue Jays
Brown Creeper
Cardinals
Chickadees
Cooper's Hawk x 2 (1 adult male and 1 adult female) - the male was perched on a tree branch and the female was flying around the middle woods, both "kekking" up a storm! I'm really hoping this year they will mate/nest/have babies - it's been awhile.
Downy Woodpecker x 1 (male)
House Finches
House Sparrows
Kinglets
Robins
Red-breasted Nuthatches
White-breasted Nuthatches
Other: Mourning Cloak butterfly x 1
Maplewood Park: East side of Glen Erin Dr., 1 1/2 blocks North of Aquitaine Ave. Park co-ordinates: 43.5899,-79.7599

Wow, I almost fainted from shock this morning! A male and female Wood Duck are at Maplewood Park, flying around in the middle woods then standing on a high up tree branch at North end of the woods. I've never seen Wood Ducks at this park before! Lots of Pileated Woodpecker holes around so I wonder if they might use one for nesting? 8)

they probably already are

The woods were extremely quiet today but no hawks around, no Wood Ducks sighted either. Between 11am-12 noon, sighted a male Hairy Woodpecker and a White-breasted Nuthatch (such a beautiful bird!) within inches of my face. Lots of Trillium flowers.

I'm happy to hear the hawks have been around again. Any sign of a nest? My local pair just laid in the last week or so.

I was there around 2:30 pm and saw a pair of Red-breasted Nuthatch working on a nest cavity in a dead tree. The male was also feeding the female while she was working on the cavity :o

Hi ostrich. Just seeing old nests, a few which were "dummy" nests. Not seeing them building any new nest. :| It might be another one of these years where they have the babies elsewhere (unknown location) then bring them to Maplewood Park for hunting.
Hi winz. :) Thinking this will be a good month to focus on Maplewood Park. Apparently at Lake Aquitaine, there's a Robin with a white head and white back - haven't seen this one yet but a lot of people have seen it this week at East end of lake. Might wander down to Lake Wabukayne tomorrow to see what's around - will decide in the morning.

This morning, 9:30-10:30am, sighted: Cardinal x 1 (male).
Could hear lots of Chickadees, Red-breasted Nuthatches, Pileated Woodpecker and Robins but not seen. No sign of hawks or Wood Ducks. Lots of Trillium flowers.
Quite windy this morning - love feeling and hearing this through the trees in the woods. Everything flowering in the neighbourhood - smells wonderful! :D

Hi everyone. This morning between 6:30-8:00am, the male and female Wood Duck were flying in & out of the middle woods - hadn't seen them since May 1st.
