Title: Straight billed Ibis?
Post by: Dinusaur on May 10, 2015, 08:21:23 PM
I was going through the Ibis photos taken last week-end at the Sobey's pond when I noticed this strange straight beaks phenomenon. We all know how curvy their beaks are - yet in the photo below it appears to be straight. How is that possible unless the beaks are quite malleable? If so, doesn't that make it difficult to hold on to their prey? Or is there a different dynamics in play here?

It appears to have its head turned 90 degrees, so that you are getting the bottom view.

That's brilliant, Brian. I didn't think of the obvious. Silly me.
