Thanks never saw a white spot and dismissed it as that

In Sibley's it says the "first year female" doesn't have the white wing spot. So maybe this one is still changing to full adult plumage? It also says in the text that "*most* females have small white patch at base of primaries." so I guess that means not all of them do.

It's a lovely crisp photo!
