Has anyone noticed a lack of House Sparrows lately? I'm not complaining, but they have been very scarce at my feeders this winter. Normally my feeders would be emptied daily on cold winter days, but it hasn't been happening this year. The House Finch numbers are down a bit too, but I'm getting lots of Goldfinches, Juncos, Cardinals, and (since the beginning of January) Redpolls.
I'm wondering if this phenomenon is limited to my neighbourhood, or if it is more widespread.

I have noticed a drop in visits as well. They still come but not as much for sure.
Redpolls?........wow
The 100 plus that empty my 3 tubes of niger every day are eating better than me.....lol

I still see house sparrows yes but in fewer numbers... Also fewer House finches. There is a Coopers that visits daily and a Merlin was around here for a while..
I have also noticed fewer Junko's and No! American tree sparrows. The Gold finches are ignoring the Niger seed and are feeding exclusively
on Black oil seed.. There are four Gold finches out there right now...
Napper

Still plenty of house sparrows in my backyard (near High Park).
