Title: Long Point Waterfowl
Post by: purpun on June 03, 2015, 07:39:43 PM
Can somebody help us ID this waterfowl? We had two quick flybys. The red/orange on it was vibrant.
Looks like some kind of duck to me but my husband said the neck looked almost heron-like when the bird took off.

I looked at some images of a Green Heron flying and it looks like it could be a match.

Hello Purpun - we were there last week and had a similar sighting - perhaps the same bird - flying from the pond at the Bird Studies Canada area over the trees to the lake.  Did you see your Green Heron at the same place ?

Green Heron wow, thanks all! My husband knew there was something different about that neck.

Molebird - that's exactly where we saw it! We were walking along the path from the cemetery to the road when we spotted it flying out of the pond.
