Title: Leucistic Junco?
Post by: Brian Bailey on October 29, 2015, 12:16:05 PM
This eBird report of a McKay's Bunting caught my eye this morning http://ebird.org/ebird/canada/view/checklist?subID=S25610623
It would be a spectacular rarity for Ontario. Interesting looking bird. I'm guessing it's a leucistic Junco.

Yeah you're probably right.  The legs appear light coloured not black like the McKay's Bunting.

Also the black wing patch is much too large to be a McKay's Bunting. Mind you I have never seen a McKay's Bunting but had a look at some images online.

The only finds outside of Alaska of McKay's Bunting on e-Bird is one in Vancouver and two in Washington state, so one in Ontario would be really unlikely.
