Title: Ottawa bound
Post by: MistyHudson on January 01, 2016, 10:27:11 PM
My husband and I are heading to Ottawa at the end of January (2016) and I was wondering if anyone could tell me some good birding spots we could check out as we have a 3 day gap in our trip to fill. Any suggestions would be appreciated!

This year is weird. It's raining right now, but we'll get a flash freeze tonight, and not much snow over the next few days but the open water will start to disappear, concentrating our waterfowl.

Unfortunately, our super rarities will be gone by then. The Bullocks Oriole is in wildlife rescue, pink-footed goose likely moved on in the last storm, Smew and mountain bluebird hasn't been seen for a few weeks.

Only one left is the Summer Tanager if it survives.

One of our local specialties is the Barrows Goldeneye off the Rideau River.

Winter birding in Ottawa requires a lot of patience, warm clothes and likely a fair amount of driving.

Send me a pm with what you're looking for.
