Title: Coopers or Sharp-shinned?
Post by: Buddy on January 12, 2016, 04:07:24 PM
Had this guy visit my inner city feeder today scaring away all the regulars.  Most clues pointing to Coopers but wanted more experienced birders here to confirm.  Thank all :)

The extensive brown on the face makes me think it's a Sharpie, but I always find the adults difficult to distinguish, especially without a sense of scale.

I usually go by capped/hooded appearance and tail shape, but unfortunately neither is visible in this picture, so I have to pass.

Thick tarsi (legs) and mean (vs cute) look make this an almost adult Coopers Hawk.
