At Riverwood Conservancy today in flock with house and goldfinches.
Finch-sized with yellow and white bars prominent on wings. (much more distinct then a pine siskin I think). Could not see breast but pointed narrow beak with a touch of orange/rust just above beak. Was I just seeing a goldfinch with early spring plumage?

It sounds like a siskin from your description. A key difference is that a siskin appears streaky from any angle, whereas a Goldfinch is unstreaked. Siskins have not been common this winter, but that doesn't mean you didn't see one.
