I have recently seen reports (on ebird) of dead birds. What is the protocol for a dead bird sighting? I was always under the impression that dead birds don't count towards official lists...but I could be wrong.
One such report is linked below (warning it does have a picture of a dead bird):

"Only include living birds. In the long run we hope to gather information on dead birds, but at this point eBird is intended only for living birds."

That said, many people personalize eBird to suit their own purposes and I doubt a few people reporting dead birds, especially if they are rarities, is a problem.
