Title: Maplewood Park
Post by: Bird Brain on March 30, 2016, 04:14:37 PM
Hi everyone.  I was at Maplewood Park today from 11am-1pm and sighted the following:

Cardinals x 6 (4m, 2f)
Chickadees x 2 - very tame, hand fed them
Crows x 3 - cawing up a storm but no hawks or owls around
Downy Woodpeckers x 3 (f) - very active!
Golden-crowned Kinglet x 1 (f)
House Finch x 1 (f)
House Sparrows - dozens
Pigeons x 6
Red-breasted Nuthatch x 1 (f) - very tame, hand fed her

Could hear a Hairy Woodpecker but not seen.

Maplewood Park:  East side of Glen Erin Dr., 1 1/2 blocks North of Aquitaine Ave.

Hi ostrich.  I was talking with people that live by the park/woods and everyone said "haven't seen any hawks here for ages!".  Yep, that sadly pretty much sums it up.  Also, there was some sort of Forestry sign set up a couple of weeks back by Glen Erin Dr. (never had a chance to read it and it's since been removed).  I noticed a lot of trees have been chopped down!  Noticing this at other parks in Meadowvale as well.  Perhaps due to the Emerald Ash Borer?  Had also seen a lot of various trees with orange X on them especially at Lake Aquitaine and Plowman's Park - they've been chopped down as well.
