Title: Purple Martin Scout Arrival
Post by: Ground State on April 01, 2016, 09:32:13 PM
Hi all,
Had a friend living on the shore of Lake Erie asking tonight about whether anyone has any information on purple martin scouts in the Niagara area yet? She just bought a resale home last year that came with a large purple martin house in the backyard. She doesn't know the ins and outs yet of maximizing the occupancy of the house. Her husband initially put it out too soon and it was occupied by starlings. Any advice?

This website seems to have lots of helpful information about getting ready for the season: http://essexpurplemartins.ca/
You can also keep an eye on ebird for recent or historical reports. The only ones I see so far are at Long Point and Hamilton.
