Title: April 7,Wet Woods, Meadowlark, Snipe, Fox Sparrow, Sapsucker
Post by: rickeckley on April 07, 2016, 01:41:17 PM
Cold wind blowing but patches of sun made for a very pleasant first migration outing in the Wet Woods for me this morning.  I was there from 9:30-11:15am.

Highlights included:

Meadowlark
Snipe (I got a  very good look - not a Woodcock)
Fox Sparrow
Sapsucker
Great Egret (flyover)
Mockingbird
G.C. Kinglet
Goldfinch
Cowbird

Nice to be back in the saddle...

I haven't been down there this spring yet.  How wet is it compared to prior years at this time.

It's perhaps the wettest I have ever seen it (I've been going down multiple times per week in April and May for the last 5-6 years).  Keep in mind, it had rained hard in the few days preceding this last visit.  The area along the "main" path on the left side of the parking lot heading into the centre of the woods was a small lake as usual, but heading along this "main" path into the taller trees, it remained lake-like, which is unusual.  Still, all the water barely slowed me down compared to other years.

Thanks Rick.  That could bode well for lots of bugs this year for the birds.  Last year was quite dry.
