Title: Wet Woods Week of April 25

A cold, cold day in the wet, wet woods this Tuesdy afternooon from 12-3.  I found a total of 44 species.  Highlights included:

Black and White Warbler
Pine
Yellow Rump
Lincoln's Sparrow
Fox Sparrow
Swamp Sparrow
Chipping Sparrow
Tree Sparrow
Field Sparrow
Song Sparrpw
White Throated Sparrow
Towhee
Junco
Rusty
Gnatcatcher
Winter Wren

Tree Swallow

Raven

weird morning. not surprised. cold temps kept things relatively quiet, but before i left, it suddenly got a bit active.

2 VERY active thrashers near the front of the wet woods
2 blue grey gnatcatchers
1-2 pine warblers that were the lowest i've seen pine warblers. one was feeding on the ground in the brush.

rc kinglet
grackles
towhee
flickers
chickadees
one raccoon roaming around the east wet part of the wet woods. strange to see.
white crowned sparrows
assorted sparrows. :)

It felt slower today, but I still got 42 species between 9am -12-noon when all was said and done.  Most of these were an overlap with my Tuesday list.  Saw my first Wood Thrush and got a Lincoln's again today - same spot, so probably the same one.  I heard (but did not see) a Carolina Wren, which seems strange.  They are non-migratory and yet I've never seen (or heard one) in the Wet Woods before.  Can anyone comment on this.  I don't see how I could have gotten the call wrong.  It's pretty obvious and I checked it out on my ibird app at the time.  Strange.  I did not see Pine or Palm, but others reported them.  B and W was still present.

Red Tail was hunting all around the woods, perched very low, as was a Peregrine.

I had a pair of Carolina's in a park along the lake that they don't normally live in either. I was wondering if with this very mild winter, more Carolina's survived than in some years and therefore they are dispersing now to find territories for this summer?

...oh, I forgot about two Horned Grebes in the bay by the Unwin bridge and two Mockingbirds in the Allotment Gardens

Saturday was pretty quiet.
female pine warbler
red tail hawk, sitting low in the trees
BG gnatcatchers
LOTS of mockingbirds
and a nashville warbler
