Title: Tundra or Trumpeter?
Post by: takkatakka on May 05, 2016, 08:16:51 PM
We saw this swan at Frenchman's Bay about a month ago. Wondering if it is a Tundra or Trumpeter. Yellow on lore is confusing because overall looks like a Trumpeter. Now i'm second guessing myself.

 Your thoughts are appreciated.

Probably a Trumpeter - apparently they can also develop the yellow on their bills. There was one at La Salle a few years ago that caused a similar confusion.

Interesting.  We didn't know Trumpeter Swans could have the yellow.

Thanks, we wouldn't have figured this one out.

Yes, it is not always easy to sort these swans out but, it looks like it  is a Trumpeter Swan.

I often see Trumpeters at Frenchman's Bay but have yet to see a Tundra Swan there. Nice pic!
