Title: Frenzy at my Bird Feeder
Post by: jnish on July 18, 2016, 09:39:20 AM
I have a bird feeder just outside my kitchen window that is quite popular with Gold and House finches, Chickadees, Nuthatches, Cardinals, Downy Woodpeckers, Grackles, and the occasional Blue Jay.  However, a couple of days ago, a huge "flock" of diverse birds arrived, and stayed in my yard, taking turns at the feeder, for about and hour and a half, until the food was virtually gone.  While the vast majority were Grackles, there were also all of the birds mentioned above, and in addition, a male Rose-breasted Grosbeak, and a number of unknowns that I have posted in the ID section.  There was also a bald Grackle, which I understand is not uncommon.  I am curious to know if this type of diverse flock taking over a bird feeder is common.  It certainly was fascinating to observe!
