Title: Woodcock at Sam Smith Park
Post by: Brian Bailey on March 29, 2008, 11:57:36 PM
I was at Sam Smith Park this evening to have a look at downtown during earth hour.  (There were fewer lights than usual, but it certainly wasn't dark!) :(

There was one or more Woodcock calling from the area south of the south parking lot.  It's mainly meadow with some small seasonal wetlands there.

There were also Red-necked Grebes calling off the south shore.

Be warned if you are considering visiting after dark:  there are no lights, and it is a popular spot with partying youth.  There were lots of them heading in as we were leaving.

Was up at Kortright last night and we heard them right at dusk too!
