Title: pronunciation of pileated
Post by: jnish on August 28, 2016, 06:50:29 PM
Is there a preferred pronunciation, pill- or pile- eated woodpecker?  I have heard both, but I would like to make sure that I pronounce the word properly.  (I took pictures of one yesterday at Heber Down).  My google search suggests that both are acceptable.  My Websters and Oxford both suggest that "pile" is correct.

Thank you for the link.  It also answered my question about the pronunciation of gyrfalcon!
