House sparrows are busy building nests in the birdhouses in my back yard. Male and female are hard at work, its looking very much like spring behaviour. I don't remember them doing this in previous years. Is it normal behavior and if yes, will they sleep in these nests throughout the winter. I was actually going to remove the birdhouses and clean them out but now think I should leave the cleaning to early spring.

House Sparrows use their nests year round. In winter it is a sheltered place to roost at night or hide in a storm.
