At 6:30 PM on Thursday Oct 13 I was jogging along the BeltlineTrail and when I was northwest of the Glen Rd. bridge I saw a Great Horned Owl moving around on a lowlying bare tree limb. I couldn't see it very well from the trail because of the darkness and the distance so I walked through the undergrowth to get a better view but it flew off to a more distant tree behind a chain link fence.I later heard it making barking and hooting sounds.

there are definitely some around - I heard a pair calling on Sept 27th, and I live relatively close to where you are describing
they are hard to find now that we have so few crows around
