They are back for another autumn and winter. Last night they passed a foggy camera. Brampton.

At about 2:25 AM yesterday morning a pair triggered my game camera. There is nothing unusual about that except the female has a broken leg. Whatever happened must have happened very recently as she is otherwise robust and healthy looking. Her right hind leg is extremely swollen from the hock on down. It dangles and sways as she holds it off the ground. The paw points outward. When they triggered the camera the male turned around and left right away. She hung around triggering the camera for the next 35 minutes. Even lying down at one stage. After about 30 minutes from the first appearance the male returned as if to fetch her and check up on her. They then both departed.
I suppose she can't be helped? I did call the City of Brampton and they said they'd send someone out if I see her. I will call them back if I see her around, but I rarely see them during the day.

Thanks Bird Brain. I did not see her last night. I got quite a surprise though as a pack passed my camera last night. You see 4 individuals in this video, but I think they may actually number 5 as a straggler tripped the camera a few minutes later. Interlopers? They all look so healthy and strapping. It's getting to be an animal highway out back. They follow the path of least resistance that's for sure. They use the little spruce tree on the right of the screen to leave each other messages.

There is something else in this video besides 4 coyotes. Post a reply if you can spot it.

around the 12 second mark something flew by.

Bingo winz! I have a fairly good idea what it was as I have seen this on my videos a few times before. The coyotes didn't react in this video but most times they do.

At that time of the night, could it be anything other than an owl? It did seem long winged.

Last winter, after a period of freezing rain, I had a large deer with a broken left foreleg at my bird feeders...it was hard to accept that there was nothing to be done...and that it would be part of the food chain shortly.
In the summer, we had a young bear that had been hit by a van (driven by a Mennonite no less)...it was in pain and the OPP had been called....with no way to get it quick treatment they were forced to dispatch the poor thing...and a surprising problem that arose came from the fact that cops are taught to shoot people not animals like bears and the poor officer was traumatized...it apparently took more than one shot. The problem was they couldn't leave it to fend for itself because it could very likely have led to bigger problems.
You have to remember, the vets out here don't have tranquillizer guns like in the movies...and aren't trained to work on bears...
I'd be really surprised if the City of Brampton could do anything other than euthanize the animal.

These beasts have to squeeze past my camera either on the left or right. Regardless of which way they choose, a brush-up against the camera is inevitable. It also seems to be a pee-stop for marking territory. Many animals use that path as my camera has shown. I am glad to see these animals are always very healthy looking in their coats.

OK I've stared and stared at the previous video...I know at around 11 to 12 s something flies out in a hurry from the top of the composter...it appears to have flown from a position perched on the composter but I can't see it in the frames before.....I give up...what is it?

I am pretty sure it is a Northern Saw-whet Owl. There was one hanging around for much of the winter which I saw from time to time during daylight hours (it even left some poop and pellets on my patio).

I found some kind of pellet that had coyote nails in it earlier in the spring.
