Title: House Sparrow suffers a seizure!...but is ok!!!
Post by: Walter Fisher on January 24, 2017, 03:40:45 PM
I thought I'd run the camera while I ate my lunch today just in case anything different showed up at the feeders or anything unusual happened.  Turned out that it was the latter of the two.  Thankfully it wasn't too serious.

I love the concern the other sparrows showed!

Hey Walter, there may be another explanation for what happened here.
Some years ago I visited a bird banding station. The head bander placed a small bird on its back. The bird layed perfectly still. The bander explained that it remained still because birds do not lay on their backs, so finding itself in an unfamiliar position it did not know what to do.
In this case I'm wondering if during the "fight" with the other sparrow it somehow found itself hanging upside down. Being in an unfamiliar position, it did not know what to do and so remained still until another sparrow dislodged it.

Thanks John, that's quite possible.  I really have no clue what happened, of course.  Sure was crazy though.
