I'm working through some old photos from last May during migration at a park along Lake Ontario. There are Song Sparrows that nest there but they usually have black triangles on the front. Is this just a "red toned" song sparrow? Or is it a Fox? Or something else? The angle is bad and the lighting was terrible (misty and light rain) so if it's not possible to say, I'll just have to look again this spring as see who pops up.

You're a little bit off track - it's not a sparrow at all. Let me know if you're still having trouble figuring it out!

Ok, maybe a Purple Finch ? (Or the bill is getting really squashed by the telephoto--which is quite possible.)

Yup!

Thanks for the help. I *never* would have figured that out on my own!
