I’ll be visiting Canada shortly, staying in the Toronto area. While there I would like to buy a spotting scope for birding and digiscoping – I would like the opportunity to try a scope in-store before buying. Henry’s camera store has a lot listed, but none available in store. I see that Khan Scope Center and WBU Nature Store seem to have selections in-store. Are there other stores in or close to Toronto that I could visit (Pelee is a bit too far away)?

As far as I know the only place with a reasonable selection in Ontario is Pelee Wings. You can try other places but there won't be very many options.

Sail has spotting scopes in store. Not too sure about trying them out however;

Pelee Wings has competetive pricing, a wide selection and there is no problem testing them in store. They are approx a 3 hour drive from Toronto;

thanks both. It does look like it will be worth the drive to Pelee :roll:

When exactly will you visit Toronto?

I have not been to the Cabela's store in Barrie (one hour drive from Toronto) but the one in Buffalo (2 1/2 hour drive from Toronto but in the USA) stocks a lot of optics and were very good about letting me test them in store. Might be a possibility but it is of course more of a hunting store, staff will not know anything about birding most likely.

Thanks for the info Pat - I would not have found that store... they seem to have a good range. It looks like hunters prefer straight scopes - i think angled will suit my needs more.
