Pretty noisy at the Spit today (Sat. April 5), with Cormorants, Gulls, Long-tails, Sparrows, Robins, and Red-breasted blackbirds all trying to make themselves heard.
Observed a couple of male Long-tails with their spring suits on. Also a Juvenile Red-tailed Hawk and managed to flush a couple of Short-eared Owls out near Pipet point.

I saw the red-tailed as well and also at least 5 cottontail rabbits and two owls which saw me first and escaped before I could take a better. Also saw two turkey vultures at the east side.
You can see them in my gallery at http://www.pbase.com/andrewkuanlu (http://www.pbase.com/andrewkuanlu)

I was at the Spit on Friday evening, lots to see there as well... I tracked the Juvenile Red Tailed Hawk through the muck (yes, it's still very wet/muddy off the main road). I stopped when I was about 150ft away and just sat and watched. Beautiful! :D
Saw tons of RW blackbirds, Mallards, a few Robins & even found a groudhog lair with a rather large male still in it!!! Needless to say, I gave mr groundhog a wide berth after snapping a couple of pics.
Also saw a Heron flying overhead... hopefully things will be a bit drier the next time that I'm out there:D

On Sunday, it was a nice but very windy day down there.
Notable birds were, 12 Canvasback ducks (wetlands and beaver pond), 1 pair of Green-winged Teals, a few WW Scoters by the yacht club, 1 pair of Ring-necked ducks at the beaver pond - the beaver was present also, 1 tree swallow and 1 2nd year Golden Eagle.
Lots of Buffleheads, all 3 Mergansers, LTD's and Goldeneyes.
