Title: Why this squirrel had a line on it's waist?
Post by: Ally on June 06, 2017, 08:05:44 PM
Hello everyone, I saw this squirrel came to my feeder today. It has a very obvious line on it's waist. I wonder whether it's because it's kind of over weighted so the fur squeeze like that or something. Please share your opinions, thanks.

This is just a guess on my part but maybe it was shedding and the back part where the black line shows and below it is still not finished yet shedding fur yet.

The squirrels that visit our yard shed their long fur each spring.  They rub themselves on just about anything they can find to help remove it.  We used to have a 'half barrel' flower pot and the squirrels would run around the rim trying to rid themselves of their old winter coats.  It was quite amuzing to watch.

Good birding,
Walter :)
