I'm pretty certain this is a juvenile Towhee. Not much info on what
a juvenile Eastern Towhee looks like but what I've seen doesn't seem to fit.
The closest match I can find so far is a juvenile Spotted Towhee.
It was bathing is a puddle in the middle of the trail. I startled it and it
flew to a nearby tree. Wet feathers didn't help the ID. Using a 135mm lens
didn't help much either.

Yes a juvenile towhee. Looks fine for an Eastern to me, I don't see any reason to think it would be a Spotted which would not show up as recently fledged juvenile in Ontario
