I realized today that I have never seen a juvenile cardinal before. At a first glance, the juvenile appeared quite yellow! The difference in beak colour is striking.

Dull-coloured juveniles are often confused with adult females unless you see them clearly enough.
Fledglings are generally very ruffled-looking and as you observed there is no colour in the beak.
You raised a point that might suggest a continuing thread dedicated to juvenile birds, or perhaps
a thread of photographs from anyone having something to offer ranging from chicks to juveniles of
any song bird.

This wee cardinal looks quite vulnerable in the grass!
I am really enjoying your photos on this forum! Nice to see such a diversity in your collection, from local settings! You don't have to travel far to see beauty in nature!
