Title: Eastern Towhee
Post by: Steve Hood on December 31, 2017, 08:13:37 AM
Another unusual winter resident.  She has been at Hall's Road all December and although a bid skittish at time she is feeding off of the seeds from the path.

In some respects it seems to be quieter every year and yet the birds are out there.
Recent finding by amateur scientists in Germany demonstrates that the insect population
has plummeted in recent years. It only stands to reason that insect-eating birds should
also decline. I've heard about the Towhee sighting at Hall's Rd. and even the more recent
Short-eared Owl sighting on Hall's Rd North but it's just so COLD out, and getting access
to a car is tough so not having been out to look is a drag. Fortunately I have pictures to
peruse of both an Eastern Towhee and a Brown Thrasher that I now know are out there... somewhere.
Thanks for posting.
