Title: Great Egrets return to Grenadier Pond
Post by: David the park stroller on April 16, 2008, 08:41:15 AM: Delighted by 3 Great Egrets Tuesday morning exploring Grenadier Pond in High Park. Also saw the first Magnolia warblers of the season.

i saw one of the great egrets this afternoon hiding amongst the cat tails towards the back of grenadier pond :)
truly a magnificent bird!

whereabouts did you see the warblers?

to see the wood ducks, drive onto parkside drive via the queensway and park at the parking lot by the spring road entrance...they can be found at the second pond (the one furthest from the parking lot, near the jamie bell adventure playground) - it is not a long walk ;)

to see the egrets is a bit more difficult, as they are located at the end of grenadier pond, near the west ravine nature trails - there's really no where to park unless you park along ellis (which i am unsure if you can)...

Are you 100% on the Magnolia's or could they possibly have been Yellow-rumped? Quite early for Magnolias.

Post by: David the park stroller on April 17, 2008, 09:32:53 AM: Felt pretty confident on the magnolia ID... but it was just two birds and moving quite fast so I'll accept more experienced thoughts!
